Running a blogging business gives you ultimate freedom. You can blog from pretty much anywhere that has an internet connection, and that means that you can spend a lot more time traveling the world if you so desire.
Of course, blogging is still a business and as such you need to take it seriously – it can’t be all play and no work even when you’re exploring far-flung destinations, which is why I’ve put together a few pointers that will help you get the balance right and enjoy your travels while you continue to build your blog overseas…
Schedule Posts
The best thing you can do if you want to do less work when you travel without it impacting upon your blog is to schedule as many posts ahead of time as you can. If you usually post to a schedule, your readers will not be pleased if that schedule suddenly goes out of the wiondow. So, write a few more posts while you’re still at home, schedule themto coincide with your usual publishing days and no one will even know you’re away…well not unless you choose to post about your travels anyway.
Write and Edit On the Flight
Okay, so you might not be able to use Wi-Fi when you’re up in the air, but if you’ve already got the bulk of the wrok done on the ground, you casn spend the time traveling editing your text and using software like Photoshop to improve your blog’s images and stuff like that. Mosyt flights are pretty boring, so working on your blog will give you somethign too and take your mind of the dullness of the flight. It has to be better than another awful in-flight movie, right?
Get a Virtual Mailbox
If you invite your readers, clients, brand partners or anyone else related to your business to write to you physically, then youre going to want to take a look at mailbox forwarding prices and sign up for a service you can afford. That way, you can access scans of your mail anywhere in the world, allowing your to respond in a timely manner. This is also a great way to cut down on the physical clutter in your life and it helps to ensure that those important letters aren’t lost too.
Use Travel as an Opportunity to Engage
Engaging more with your readers via your blog and social media is a great way to build up trust and have your followers feel more invested in you as a person and your blog. So, when you’re traveling take the time to engage them by asking them for hotel or restaurant recommendations where you’re staying, for example. Not only will they love getting involved, but you will benefit from lots of cool suggestions for travel that you may not have considered before.
Take Awesome Photos
One of the hardest things about blogging is finding good photos that are also affordable. So, if you want to build your blog on the go, be sure to take as many great photos as you can so that you always have a stock to go to when you need to perfectly illustrate a post.
Have fun on your travels!
