Each year, people spend around $140 billion in a global effort to defy aging, and that doesn’t even account for food choices designed around skincare, cosmetic surgery, and other non-beauty product solutions. In the following article, we look at the five most helpful tips if you want to keep looking your best. Let’s begin!
1. Protect Skin From Sun Damage
The sun is largely our friend, doling out life-giving warmth, vitamin D, and sustainability. But too much of anything can have negative effects. Just ask your skin.
Sun damage is a very real thing. It can develop into malignant cancer and be life-threatening. That’s a threat that can continue the whole year through but especially during the summer months.
Look for sunscreens that have a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or above. If you intend to be outside for a long time, make time for frequent breaks to reapply throughout that period.
2. Eat Foods That Are Good for the Skin
The food that’s great for your skin is pretty much the food that’s great for your body. Your skin is an organ like everything else inside of you, so it only makes sense. Luckily, there are some pretty tasty choices:
- Fatty fish
- Nuts and seeds
- Dark chocolate
- Red grapes
Each of these food items is loaded with the vitamins and minerals your skin loves. The low calories and efficient macronutrients make them great “in-between snacks” as well.
3. Facial Hygiene Is Real and You Should Be Doing It
Soap and water are good for the skin, and yes, you should absolutely be using them every time that you shower. That said, you should also consider applying anti-aging cream and other anti-aging products on a daily basis.
Choose gentle washes that eschew harsh chemicals for retinoids or more natural solutions. Also, once per week, schedule time to exfoliate. This gets deeper into the pores and removes much of the unseen dirt and grime that nevertheless clog those areas.
4. Consider Injections
Cosmetic surgery is another viable option if you have more extensive treatments you would like to pursue (think rhinoplasties and face-lifts). You’ll certainly need to put a lot of thought into which cosmetic surgeon to use, so ask around, read reviews, and attend consultations.
Additionally, you might consider ongoing anti-aging treatment. Try the Dr. Scott Allison anti-wrinkle injection series, for example, if you’re located in the New Farm region. These target forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines, among other facial features.
5. Look Into Skincare Supplements
In some cases, you also might want to consider skincare supplements. This is especially true if you’re not getting enough of the fats, vitamins, and minerals that you need through your diet.
For example, omega-3 fats are beneficial to various parts of your body, skin included. However, the best source for them is fatty fish, and many people just can’t eat fish. In those cases, a fish oil supplement is a great way to fill things out.
