What to pack for Bali: packing checklist and fashion essentials

Bali is a dream vacation spot for most tourists. It offers wonderful scenery, great beaches, amazing food, and warm hospitality and accommodations for any traveler, from a backpacker to a jetsetter. However, with its high temperatures and intense humidity, it can be a bit tricky to decide what to pack for this tropical vacation. So, here are some tips to help you get organized for your trip to Bali:

Light and airy clothing

It is going to be quite hot in Bali, so make sure to pack lightweight, breathable clothes that won’t weigh you down. A good pair of shorts, an airy skirt, or even a pair of breezy summer pants, should all be essential pieces in your luggage. Stay away from polyester and try to stick to natural fabrics, such as linen and cotton, as they are perfect for this kind of humid climate. Pack a few of your favorite t-shirts and strappy tops, or even opt for a crochet top, which could be worn both on the beach and as a part of a casual outfit, and it is sure to keep you breezy during those hot days. Don’t forget to bring one or two light summer dresses, which could easily transition from day to night, so you don’t worry about overpacking for your exotic vacation.

A good pair of shoes

A cute pair of practical sandals, which can be worn both on the beach and as a part of an everyday outfit, should be the most important thing on your packing list. Try to choose a pair of sandals which are in a neutral color, to make sure they will go well with any look. If you are a person who likes to dress up and go dancing or clubbing, then packing a pair of comfortable high-heeled shoes might be a good idea. If, however, you are planning to go hiking or on adventurous tours, then it is highly recommended to bring your favorite pair of sneakers, to make sure you are prepared and avoid any uncomfortable situations.

Packing a few of your favorite swimwear items is undoubtedly a must for everyday trips to the beach. As a native garment for this region, a beautiful sarong is an essential beachwear item. It is a great swimsuit cover-up, but it can also be used as a light blanket or pillow, or it can even replace your beach towel. That being said, most hotels in Bali do give you a beach towel to use during your stay, but it is always a good idea to bring your own, as you will certainly need to use it. Don’t set off on your vacation without packing a sunscreen and remember to bring a good book to keep you occupied while you’re relaxing at the beach.

Don’t forget about the accessories

One of the most important accessories you should pack is a sun hat, to make sure you protect yourself from the strong Bali sun. Plus, a wicker sun hat is a very stylish way of completing any beach outfit. Bringing a good beach bag that could also double as a casual day bag is a great way of packing smart, while still maintaining fashionable. If you are going on tours or motorcycle rides, however, it is advisable to bring a day backpack with you. Also, a chic pair of sunglasses should definitely be on your packing list. Not only do they protect your eyes from harmful sunrays, but they also have the power of elevating any outfit you wear.

Be mindful

When visiting a foreign country, it is always best to be respectful about the society and their culture. Locals in Bali are quite conservative, so if you plan on visiting temples, you should always cover your shoulders and knees. You could use your sarong to cover yourself, but it is still advisable to pack a light jacket, just in case you encounter a few colder nights. It is also worth mentioning that heavy rains are nothing out of the ordinary for Bali, even during hot summer days, which is why packing a small umbrella, or even a lightweight raincoat, is always a good idea.
