Transformative travel and other trends that contribute to a holistic life

After the past few years, the urge and desire to travel has only increased among many people. What we can say is that a number of travel trends are already emerging in 2022 in which people are increasingly environmentally aware/sustainable. And today we are going to tell you a bit about those trends.

1 Meaningful and transformative travel

A new travel trend emerging in 2022 is meaningful travel, also known as transformative travel. Think about yoga and meditation retreats, healing and self discovery vacations. Meanwhile, people want to experience deeper and more meaningful connections to the places they visit in 2022. We want to taste local food, learn from local communities and artisans. We want experiences that make a difference in our lives and that of others.

2 Sustainable tourism

Many countries want to take more climate action with regard to tourism. Many travelers also like to take the climate into account and therefore opt for travel options and a travel guide that offers sustainable choices. These choices are aimed at protecting and preserving the environment for future generations. But sustainable tourism is not just about the environment. It is also about connecting and leaving a positive impact on cultures, economies and among local communities.

3 Volunteer trips

Volunteer trips are gaining popularity due to this trend. Recently, more people are volunteering at their travel destinations. Many people also start eating differently. Rather than indulging in unhealthy meals, more and more travelers have joined the organic and slow food movement. Think of the Slow Food model of tourism that consists of encounters and exchanges with farmers, artisans such as bakers, winegrowers and chefs. These people are truly the best storytellers of local food and traditions. And this is also becoming increasingly popular among travelers. So leave the KFC or McDonalds to the left and look for restaurants that serve local dishes.

4 Experience tourism

Many people nowadays look for an authentic experience during their travels. We want to do more, experience more and make more memories. It’s about a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A US study found that millennials value personal experiences more than cars and homes. You have probably already seen many of these photos on Instagram and other social media. Food is also an important point here. Travelers want to try many new things and also eat delicious dishes. We prefer to taste everything from the local cuisine of our travel destination or participate in a cool workshop in which we learn to cook epic dishes ourselves.

5 Active ecotourism

A travel trend that fits in well with experience tourism is active ecotourism. Think about nature reserves, forests, hiking etc. Many favorite destinations to visit in 2022 are mainly related to: nature, sea and of course sun!

This past year undoubtedly a number of ‘staycations’ have been made, but many people are yearning for a nice carefree holiday on the beach. Many people also want to go out again and discover new places and experience adventures. But let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want that? In 2022 people will be more interested in active holidays. For example, consider exploring the great outdoors and activities such as hiking, biking and kayaking. Mountain or countryside escapes and waterfront getaways are expected to be popular vacation experiences.

5 Travel focused on wellness

The next growing trend is wellness travel, where people seek an enriching experience with the primary goal of achieving, promoting or maintaining a sense of well-being and balance. Especially in the corona times we have experienced more than ever how important your mental well-being is. This is probably why this trend is growing so fast. Transformative travel and wellness travel can help people with burn outs or people that needs to rediscover themselves or are stuck in a rut.
