Size isn’t everything, and Lake Placid manages to successfully prove that point, as it has a great variety of things to see and do for such a relatively small town.
Located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Placid is an awesome vacation destination, and here are just a few of the things you can see and do when you visit there.
The peace and quiet of Mirror Lake
If you are staying somewhere like the Courtyard Lake Placid you will be well-placed to see the area and all that it has to offer, and that includes the beautiful Mirror Lake.
It is instantly obvious where Mirror Lake gets its name and there are plenty of photo opportunities when you set eyes on this breathtaking lake which provides a crystal-clear reflection of the town and the stately trees that are a landmark of the area.
You might decide to walk the perimeter of the lake (about 2.7 miles) and there is a gorgeous beach at one end of the lake if you want to take a break and chill out.
There are no motor vehicles allowed on the lake which means that you get to enjoy the views of the lake and surrounding forest in a state of peace and tranquility.
Take a scenic train journey
Another great way of seeing the area would be to take the Adirondack Scenic Railroad.
You can take a ride through the beautiful Adirondack Mountains traveling between Lake Placid and Utica on a train that is cared for by enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about preserving this important aspect of American rail history.
Check for events happening on the train, like the Loomis Gang Train Robbery, which is a re-enactment of the notoriously dangerous robbery that is designed to provide some awesome family-friendly entertainment that the kids will be talking about long after the ride has finished.
The area played host to the 1980 Winter Olympics and the bobsled run used by the athletes back then is still in operation today.
If you fancy a thrill-seeking adventure and you are up to the challenge, you can book a ride where you are sitting in-between a professional bobsled driver and a brakeman, so you can enjoy the ride without worrying too much about navigating the bends.
All-weather nature trail
If you fancy an activity that is much more calming you can enjoy the nature trails at Brewster Peninsula.
The trails are open during Summer and Winter, which means that you can go hiking or biking when the sun is shining and try some cross-country skiing in the Winter months.
The Boundary Trail and Ridge Trail are popular, and you are rewarded for your efforts with some amazing natural scenery as you work your away around the area that surrounds Lake Placid.
These are just some of the many reasons why Lake Placid could be the perfect vacation destination, and why it definitely deserves its reputation as a place that offers something for everyone.
