Liposuction is a pretty expensive procedure so while considering it, you should know if it can benefit you or not. It is a fantastic procedure than can help boost a persons confidence by getting rid of stubborn hard to lose fat, but it’s definitely not a complete weight loss solution either.
How does liposuction work?
The most advanced form of liposuction now is called PAL, or power assisted liposuction where the liposuction is performed using a cannula that is powered with small, fast vibrations to help break down fat cells so they can be sucked out through a thin rod. With this method doctors can remove more fat in shorter periods of time which means less fatigue on them, faster recovery for the patient and an overall better experience. PAL is performed using the tumescent liposuction technique which involves injecting aesthetic into the treatment areas to help numb the area and loosen the fat for smooth removal through the cannula.
What liposuction is good for
Liposuction is not designed to be a full body weight loss solution, rather it works for removing pockets and areas of fat. The procedure can be a stress on the body so only minimal areas are ever done at each time. People that are extremely obese would not be suited to liposuction as the surgeon would not know where to begin. Rather normal weight to overweight people that either have areas they can’t loose or have folds that really bother them and would like them removed seem to be the best candidates.
The benefit of removing fat through liposuction is once a fat cell is gone, it is gone forever. They do not duplicate as you gain fat, rather they grow in size. Once fat cells have been removed from a certain area, it can be harder to gain fat in that area again as there are fewer cells left to grow.
As always, diet and exercise should be the first resort to losing weight but liposuction can benefit some people. It might be the kick start someone needs to help get into shape or that confidence boost they need however if you’re not careful and don’t change your habits, the fat can come back on.
