Get inspired: Autumn/Winter 2019-2020 fashion trends

After more than 260 shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, it’s time to take stock; Punk, leopard, cape or neo-bourgeois, here’s what the hippest fashion girls will wear this fall.

Leather pants

For autumn/winter 2019-2020 we will note the more spacious leather pants. Some designers, including Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, went one step further and brought us a full leather look. Virgil Abloh of Off-White shares this leather-on-leather vision and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen argues for a leather skirt under the leather blazer.

The shoulders that were shown on the catwalk of Fashion Week fall/winter 2019-2020 were large, but not in a rigid or straight manner: the shoulder details were round and inflated.

Camel and brown

To stay in the warm colors for a while: brown jackets are also the trend this fall. A nice brown vintage jacket, a cool brown leather jacket or perhaps a nice brown trench coat; everything is possible. Brown is a simple color to combine with. It is not for nothing that many people think that you should have at least one brown jacket in addition to a good black jacket. Buy a jacket in the color sugar almonds; a red/brown color that you can combine well with denim and orange tones.

Or go for a nice in-between coat in the color rocky road brown, a dark but warm shade that is the color of a path in the mountains. This brown shade is best combined with peach pink, with bright red and with orange. In addition, we see other natural color jackets, such as Eden green (which, incidentally, is the only color green this fall). Green and brown are a good match anyway. You can also opt for blue jackets such as galaxy blue or the more greenish bluestone and we see a dark shade of red again, called biking red. Which color combinations do you choose?

Neo-bourgeois (the new neat)

A jacket over the shoulders, a bow collar, hat, bag … those are almost all the classic, neat details that Hedi Slimane uses in his show for Celine. We go back to the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s, with a wardrobe reminiscent of the Parisian Rive Gauche, with elegant and practical clothing. Think of a checkered divided skirt, white blouse, print scarf, black blazers and knee-high boots.

 Vivid colors

Bright colors were seen in many fashion shows and give your wardrobe a little touch. Choose eye-catching items of clothing (dresses, coats, trousers) in various vibrant colors such as purple, carmine, gold red, blue and even fluorescent yellow. A trend that fits well with stores with a contemporary audience.

Whether it’s shoes, tops or hats, you finish it off with feathers. At least, that’s the opinion of various fashion houses. Balmain placed them at the bottom of the sleeve, Loewe decorated hats with it and Giambattista Valli sent his models in silky soft dresses with feathered shoes onto the catwalk.

Grunge is not dead

Winter 2019 seems to lean strongly on the grunge myth and his prophet: Kurt Cobain. A comeback that makes sense in the fashion trend cycle. It is a quarter of a century since the look was born. The style is back in a contemporary version. Artistic directors of large luxury homes that grew up in the grunge era now introduce the (updated) look to the new generation. In the shop windows, the pieces must be combined in the right way to achieve this careless allure.

Jewelry with pearls

This is the chic and trendy accessory of the moment. Pascale Monvoisin is an example of this trend that with its hangers, it can do well in concept stores and fashion stores. The fast-fashion brands already have their own versions for low prices.

Gothic

As you can see at Saint Laurent, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, “gothic” is coming back. Black, black, and even more black, but in different materials: leather, lace, and denim for example. But also as an accent in the accessories (belts, bags, shoes) and of course in the make-up, which can boost a slightly understated look.
