Archeologists

Scattered among the unknown sites, archeologists are discovering more here. There are many unexplained structure from shapes like circles, rectangles and even triangles. These are not simply stones that have been heaped up here; they have carefully selected flat stones and built them into proper walls. They have got a vertical face on them and sharp corners properly lay out. Some of them stretch the length of five football fields. With over 1200 tons of rock nearly twice the weight of the Eiffel tower.

History of city of Saleh

The beginning of this city dates back to the pre-Dadanite period. Probably 3.5 thousand years ago, the community of Prophet Saleh (PBUH) known as ‘the tribe of Thamud’ started living in this city. That’s why; the history of AlUla in Islam gets a historic significance for Muslims. Forefathers of prophet Saleh came to al Hijr (part of AlUla) from the old Palestinian region. They started living there with their thamud community. The people of thamud community began to cut the Rocky Mountains and built houses for themselves. After making residence, they enabled to live with various livelihoods available in that place.

Madain Saleh

By searching the history of Islam, we got to know that Thamud people were eloquent and full of intellectual. But instead of using their wisdom and power in their true religion and beliefs, they started worshipping false idols like their forefathers did. To guide this community towards righteous path, Allah sent Prophet Saleh (PBUH) as his messenger to lead them. But the Thamud community disobeyed him at extreme level. Allah SWT demolished this disobedient nation and later on this city was named as Madain Saleh or city of Saleh. A variety of historical monuments of the Thamud are still visible in AlUla’s Madain Saleh.
