Digestion is the ultimate key to perfect health. If not taken care of, digestion can also be a root cause of many health problems and diseases. An unhealthy body with many diseases, regular stomach problems or excess weight gain is a sign of a body which has digestive problems. Poor digestion creates a home for many diseases.
If you have these following symptoms, you must rethink and take measures in order to improve your digestion system so as to avoid major problems:
- Bloating
- Nausea or Vomiting
- Growling stomach
- Gas
- Heartburn
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
These are the basic symptoms that indicate that you need to change your lifestyle or take some precautions and improve the system of your digestion. But before you move on to curing the problem, it is important to know the major reasons why your digestive system is deteriorating. The reason does not have to be specific and it may vary from person to person. For one, it may be due to consumption of fatty and oily food, while for someone else, it may be due to some major digestive disorder that he/she might not be aware of. There are several digestive disorders and you need to study them and their symptoms to know if you are the victim of any of these. Other general and basic causes of indigestion are:
- Improper eating habits: With the food industry expanding very rapidly and on a large scare, its imprint can be seen in today’s lifestyle. People are leading such busy lives that they hardly have time to cook food for themselves. They prefer picking up and eating takeaway foods than to spend their time preparing healthy foods for themselves. This results in consumption of excessive oily, fatty and unhealthy food which your body finds very hard to digest. On top of that, people mostly do not have proper timings to eat their meals; they have their meals according to their own working schedule at unfixed intervals.
Cure: However busy you are, you should make sure to have your meals at proper timings and in proper quantity. You should increase the intake of some ingredients and food which act as a natural digestive aid and help your body to digest food easily. You should try and plan your day in such a way that you eat homemade meals more often and leave the junk food only for the weekends.
- Lack of physical activities: Consumption of unhealthy food is just a part of an unhealthy life. Heavy and unhealthy meals require a lot of time to digest themselves in our body. They are not even close to digestion and we eat some other unhealthy food or start munching while working, which makes it impossible for our body to digest our food properly and provide nutrients to our body. This leads to gas, bloating or feeling of heaviness throughout the day. It seems impossible to take out time from our hectic schedules and work out but it is important that we exercise or increase our physical activity in order to break our food and feel lighter.
Cure: If you do not have time to go to the gym, you can at least take wake-up half an hour before your actual timings and go for a walk or a run. You can also increase your physical activities whilst working and making small changes in your routine. For example, taking stairs, going to fetch files yourself and not order anyone, or walking while you talk on the phone or while brainstorming.
- Food allergies: Sometimes you might consume a particular food that might not suit our body or we might be allergic to it. You may not even be aware of these food allergies if they do not cause any major harm, but they do affect your digestion system in some way or another. Your body may be allergic to a particular food ingredient. You might even be allergic to wheat or be lactose intolerant.
Cure: If you have digestion problems very frequently in spite of having a healthy lifestyle, you should get yourself check for any allergies you might have. Being aware of the problem solves half the problem.
- Insufficient water intake: Water is a very important part for us to lead a healthy life. Sufficient intake of water helps our digestion system to break down the food easily which results in providing adequate nutrients to our body. Limited consumption of water makes it difficult for our body to absorb food and excreting unwanted toxins from our body.
Cure: If you have a problem in remembering to take water regularly, you can set alarms or reminders on your smartphones which can help you get in the habit of drinking water very frequently and avoid constipation.
